An CG-3000 bought on Hamradio and some wire – thats all you need for a nice ufb evening – ah yes and Sporadic-E for sure hehe

As Hamradio is over – some new equipment was bought. One of the new parts is a CG-3000 Automatic Antenna Tuner – so before it gets mounted on the roof of house at my Home-QTH I wanted to do some temporary setup somewhere. At the QTH of OE2XAL the Clubstation of the Austrian Amateur Radio Society Salzburg I spontaneous decided to try my new gadget.

I used a Mast of DX-Wire to put my 20m wire up as kind of inverted-V and feeded at one end with the tuner. As you can see in the Gallery (here) the tuner is hanging on the fence with one end of the 20m wire connected to the top of the tuner.

As setup was completed I switched on my FT-857 to see where the tuner can match my wire. It worked on 40m, 20m, 15m. Switching to 10m FM got me a 59+ Signal without turning the VFO on 29.300.

I was curious who is coming in so strong – t turned out to be LA0EM John sitting abt 1331 km away – 70km south of Oslo. Signal had QSB as it waved between 59++ and 52. With 100W FM the fan has some work to do – so I was curious how less power would be needed for this distance – as it turns out 5W gave a 59+10
But the most exiting part comes now – hehe – John asked if I was able to do 6m – mmhh yes I have an Automatic tuner so I will try. Tuning was successfully and so I tried to call John on 51.510 FM – and I heard him with more QSB but a solid 53. We both where very excited that this works – and yes thats the MagicBand

Thanks again John for this very very nice QSO it was a pleasure to meet you on the MagicBand!

Later I tried more on 6m – also in SSB section – as it turnes out there was an England contest going on with some stations to be heard. Some of theme where just a little bit above the noise but exchanging Report, Number and Locator worked with 7 Stations!!
Sporadic-E is fantastic!!

Find here all Contacts worked with my temporary setup from JN67MT with no beam or even a special 6m antenna hehe – Thanks to all stations!!

Franz and Tom have been on fieldday in St. Johann today. First of all big thanks to the organization-team for their great work!! Franz had to test his V-Beam-Antenna for a possible DX-Pedition next year…

We set up the V-Beam in about 1,5 hours (for the first time quite fast – we think). 2 wires with 41 meters in lenght each and 13 meters feeder to the tuner, then a little bit of Coax to the transceiver. SWR was almost everywhere (from 10m to 160m) under 1:1,2. The main-mast was 12m high, the two masts in the middle of the wires 7m and the end-masts 10m. Unfortunately the photos don`t show the wire and masts very well because everything is black, very thin and in front of the trees. One side goes in destination to the little chapel, the oder side parallel in front of the trees in the background.
We are very happy that the antenna works very well from 10 to 160m.

A few QSO`s could be logged:
UT0VE/P, SP80PZK, PB5X, ON6WL/P who was on SOTA, DL7UVO/P IOTA EU-057, SP9KAT

Watch the Gallery for more pictures!

Well, I guess it was quite good, and I`m confident to have some DX contacts from 8Q too, especially the sea will help me in propagation. Unfortunately there were no QSO`s with outside Europe stations today. Also the mounting situation was not the best – the ends of the antenna were only about 2 meters from the ground. Maldives will probably be better with some high palms – I hope!

OM OE2WNL Wolfgang und ich planen Fieldnight #2 (siehe 1. Bericht HIER).
