CG-3000 and the Magic Band

An CG-3000 bought on Hamradio and some wire – thats all you need for a nice ufb evening – ah yes and Sporadic-E for sure hehe

As Hamradio is over – some new equipment was bought. One of the new parts is a CG-3000 Automatic Antenna Tuner – so before it gets mounted on the roof of house at my Home-QTH I wanted to do some temporary setup somewhere. At the QTH of OE2XAL the Clubstation of the Austrian Amateur Radio Society Salzburg I spontaneous decided to try my new gadget.

I used a Mast of DX-Wire to put my 20m wire up as kind of inverted-V and feeded at one end with the tuner. As you can see in the Gallery (here) the tuner is hanging on the fence with one end of the 20m wire connected to the top of the tuner.

As setup was completed I switched on my FT-857 to see where the tuner can match my wire. It worked on 40m, 20m, 15m. Switching to 10m FM got me a 59+ Signal without turning the VFO on 29.300.

I was curious who is coming in so strong – t turned out to be LA0EM John sitting abt 1331 km away – 70km south of Oslo. Signal had QSB as it waved between 59++ and 52. With 100W FM the fan has some work to do – so I was curious how less power would be needed for this distance – as it turns out 5W gave a 59+10 🙂 🙂
But the most exiting part comes now – hehe – John asked if I was able to do 6m – mmhh yes I have an Automatic tuner so I will try. Tuning was successfully and so I tried to call John on 51.510 FM – and I heard him with more QSB but a solid 53. We both where very excited that this works – and yes thats the MagicBand 🙂

Thanks again John for this very very nice QSO it was a pleasure to meet you on the MagicBand!

Later I tried more on 6m – also in SSB section – as it turnes out there was an England contest going on with some stations to be heard. Some of theme where just a little bit above the noise but exchanging Report, Number and Locator worked with 7 Stations!!
Sporadic-E is fantastic!!

Find here all Contacts worked with my temporary setup from JN67MT with no beam or even a special 6m antenna hehe – Thanks to all stations!!
